Exhibition: Visions of a Floating World

The works in this exhibition were created during several stays in Tokyo in 2025 and 2026, and further developed in the Perche studio upon returning from each trip. Here, Japan is not merely a picturesque subject but invites a contemplative gaze upon the natural elements within the city, where the Japanese are able to discern seventy- two micro-seasons. The dry pastels capture the moment: a cormorant on the waters of Lake Ueno, the pine trees in Sumida Park, the sea at Kamakura. The oil-on-canvas works, which take longer to complete, were created in the Perche region, inspired by the Japanese concept of “ma.” The vertical blue lines against a white canvas background traverse the surface, creating an alternation of emptiness and fullness—a presence coupled with absence that is common to all existence.
